Mumzie Christmas Listening

This is what I and mumzie have mostly been listening to this festive season...

Rick & Teena:

Janis:

Dolly (standard):

Tammi:

Fats:

Leonard:

Plan B. Yep, Plan B. She actually really liked his lyrics, this track in particular. She wasn't a massive fan of the rude words, but hey...

Hang On...

Did Vibe just get all FASH-ON? This new shoot with Amber Rose is kinda not like their normal thing.

Looking forward to seeing you the new issue. Who's editing it now?

Usher Ft. Nicki Minaj: Little Freak

Though to be fair when any one says 'Hey [fill in appropriate name of producer, in this case Polow Tha Don] they ain' ready for this' - lets face it, we kinda are. I mean, who's really shocked by anything anymore. And if it is that amazing, haven't you just plot-spoiled yourself cos now we're expecting to hear the best shit ever, and we'll most likely be let down. Like when a film is too hyped and you go to the cinema to see it like 'Yeah, it's was ooohhhkkkkaaayyyy.'

That said This Is Pretty Amazing. The production more than anything. You know I loves Nicki, but it's not even her that makes it good. Her verse isn't even beyond beyond. Polow, you did good. We were ready for this one, but don't beat yourself up. We like it a lot regardless.

Usher: Daddy's Home MIxtape

Seeing as the decade is closing out, I reckon I'd have to put Confessions up there in one of my Top 10 albums of the Noughties. I know everyone loves 8701, which is also an excellent record, but I just loved that album. Maybe it ties into good memories or something cos although I played it to death, yet can still listen to it loads today. I think it reminds me of flying to and from China when my mum loved in Shanghai - I played it all the way there and back, the whole 13/14 hours of never-ending plane drone. Anyway, good memories aside, I still think it's one of the best written, produced, arranged and sung R&B albums recorded this decade. And Yeah! made the top 10 most spun singles of the '90s (as in radio play), according to Billboard, which sounds right cos it's a straigh-up, stone-cold tuuuuuune. Luda's 16, Lil Jon's production, Ush's vocal arrangements. Jheez!

I also liked Here I Stand, well a lot of it, so I'm looking forward to hearing what Ush has to say now he's no longer in love with Tameka on Raymond V Raymond. Hope he delivers another classic for the, er - if this was the noughties, what's the next one? - tawties!??! In the interim, Mr. Raymond dropped this little mixtape a few days ago.

Shouts to Lioness for the link.

It's Barbie Bitch - Literally

An amazing still from the new Mariah single featuring 'Nicki Lewinsky'.

I thought for a moment that these were official merch - pretty gutted to find out I cant actually buy a Black Barbie...

Jay-Z Ft Mr. Hudson: Forever Young

Really nice video. Guess no one, let alone Ben Hudson would have thought he'd one day be in a video with Jay-Z - having written the damn thing!

Tony and Ben go hard!

I do have to note Benny Scarrs tweet about the final shot of the video. That truly is power right there...

Alicia Drops A Little Empire...

So her and Swizzy are pretty loved up, no?

This video is really annoying to watch, some 'view the party at New York' thing, but worth seeing a few seconds for the vocal and Swizz love....

Vybz Kartel: Marie

Still my favorite JA DJ. Don't know what it is about Kartel, but I never tire of listening to him, whether it's uptempo, mid or this laidback ballad to 'Marie' (AKA weed, obvs).

Best thing ever was going to his house in Kingston to do an interview for i-D. Properly amazing. He had loads of pictures on his wall of seminal moments at Sting and other clashes. Made quite a nice cuppa too, if I remember right.

Gucci Mane: I Want Her

Gucc gets his bad romance on. Kinda.

Beware, this is kinda porno-ish...
