The Game Plays On: A brief review of The Doctor's Advocate

So 50 and Dre ain’t rocking with the kid no more - but fuck it, Jayceon Taylor don’t necessarily need the Good Doc and Five Oh. Bearing a big-ass bag of hard-hitting rhymes, bountiful beats, hot-as-hell hooks and his heart on his sleeve, Game and guests like Snoop and Xzibit keeps it one hunnerd hip hop. The title track sees the 26 year-old drop real talk on his ruined relationship with Dr Dre, while the Nas and Marsha Ambrosius featuring Why You Hate The Game is nine minutes of straight-from-the-soul sounds - though admittedly he cut that isht off at five minutes.
Elsewhere, with that red rag hanging from the back side, the Cali rapper and button-pushers including Will I Am, Just Blaze and Scott Storch gets their gang on by keeping it strictly for the streets on scorching tracks like Compton, California Vacation and It’s Okay (One Blood).
Granted there aren’t as many radio-ready records as The Documentary, and, yeah, he needs a brush for all those names he drops, but when the raps are this rocking, who cares? Game shoots and scores.
