Is Hip Hop Dead?

still ill

According to the LA Times, Nas and the Grammy's, it might well be. I agree with Rick Rubin and Jigga though - shit ain't dead, it's just having a little rest. It's been at the top of the tops for a few, so inevitably it's gonna take a down-turn soon. Cycle of life, fools.

And, yeah, while there has been a dearth of good hip hop albums (word to Anslem Samuel (mind you, he should try writing about grime, now that's quiet, quiet)), there have been some great moments too this year. Love it or just like it, Jay-Z returned, Nas is coming, T.I. did good (the only rap album to make it into the US Top 20 sellers of 2006), Game put it on, Clipse flipped the script and I personally loved Luda, Rick Ross, Trae and E40's albums.

So is hip hop dead? Nah, course not. It's just taking a little break, that's all. Stop sweating sucka's!

If it’s not dead then it’s definitely in critical condition. Creativity has gone, innovation has vanished and integrity/real artistry is non-existent. Just got back from NY though with the new nas album, and I can safely say that after just one listen there is still hope for hip hop yet!
