Had sneaky peeks of the Wiley and Goodz albums today. Promised not to review Goodz, so all I'll say is that flow is still ridiculous, the beats are big and, yeah, it's reeeeeal!
Big Wil, on the other hand, I can talk about. Watch for full review in next RWD (can't be writing too much cos it's late and I'm tired) but there are some amazing tracks on Playtime Is Over. The song about his daughter (Baby Girl), the Dizzee track (being played by a Logan Sama near you now)and You Don't Know Me are particularly impressive because Wiley shows real growth as an MC, in terms of lyrical content - I'm saying, he gets all introspective on that ass. You feel like you're finding out about him as a person as well as an artist and to me, that's the best type of music. I know I'm not the only one bored of hearing about bang bang, shank and how fast your TT goes.
Elsewhere 50/50 and Bow E3 are insanely nuts and guaranteed to 'set the shoobs off'. He has included a few mixtape tracks like Johnny Was A Bad Boy, Eskiboy and of course, Gangstars, which the RWD forum are predictably moaning about, but I think was a good decision. We have to remember that a lot of press, DJs and punters won't own those tunes, and even more won't KNOW them. It a small bubble that we exist in and I think it's easy to forget the impact those tunes have when you first hear them. Gangsters still gets me pushing that cross-trainer up a few notches in the gym!
On the real, if I had my bag beside me I would draw for the notebook and pull out a few of my favourite lines (there's some v funny similes on there) but it's not and I'm too lazy to go downstairs.
I will post 'em tomor though, I swear.
