After a, lets be real, somewhat underwhelming last album Miss E returns with 'Cook Book.' Her website www.missy-elliott.com has two tracks, both Neptune's produced, one of which will be the first single. 'Lose Control' is on some pure electro steez, taking it right back to Planet Rock with some especially nifty stops and starts. 'On and On' is just straight up funk, again with a large nod to Kraftwerk/ Soul Sonic Force. I've not been feeling the Neptune's of late but they seem to have got rid of the churn-'em out/clavichord-isms nonsense. Not sure that either of these tracks have the impact that say, 'The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)' or 'Get UR Freak On' had when they first hit hard, but then it has to be tough when you’re expected to keep on shocking – after awhile I guess people stop jumping in surprise. Interesting that Tim isn't manning the boards on either lead track but it can only be a good thing that Miss E is expanding her rap repertoire. Tracklisting is said to look like this:
.) Joy feat. Mike Jones
.) Partytime
.) Irresistable Delicious feat. Slick Rick
.) Lose Control feat. Ciara and Fatman Scoop
.) My Struggle feat. Grand Puba and Mary J. Blige
.) Meltdown
.) Right One For You
.) On and On feat. Pharrell
.) We Run This
.) Time and Time Again
.) Gotta Move On feat. Tweet
.) Mommy
.) 4 My Man
.) Tearyeyed feat. Tweet
.) Smach The Place
.) Other Things (Bonus Track)
Loving the Slick Rick and Grand Puba features but what the F is the Fatman Scoop comeback about? Lets hope Missy is as thoughtful as Mariah and provides a Fat-free version for those of us that find the big man's hollarings horrible. There are a lot of doubters on Missy now - people reckon she's lost her edge. But I say, hell no. She WILL be back, ain't no doubt of that. Don’t sleep on Miss E.
