Newness

Cory Gunz has some kinda crazy flow – the guy could give Twista and Treach a run for their tripple-time tongue-twisters. ‘A Day In My Life’ is a mind-spinning slice of Gunz’ BX-based tales relayed at super-speed. The word is Jay Z just signed or is said to be sniffing round Gunz, son of Peter Gunz and nephew of Lord Tariq, so expect the Roc to roll into action and make him big real soon. Interviewed Fat Joe recently and he was most enthusiastic about the young gun. Talking of Joe, that ‘Whuteva’ Remy Ma track is cold cut dope. Bout time they got around to releasing it. Swizz Beat’s, er, beats are sickalicious proving that he could well be back on form and, c’mon, Remy’s got serious flow. Nice nod to Biggie too. Saw TS at the Joint Chief’s concert at Harlem Apollo last year and her freestyles were so hot. Interesting to see how her album will do, indeed, if it ever drops, but again ‘Joe’ assured me it was coming. Lets hope it gets better received than the criminally slept-on True Story.

Game may split opinion but I think he’s incredible and I love the ‘Lord Hold My Hand’ tune – well the one verse that I’ve heard anyway. At points borrowing purposefully (presumably) from Fiddy’s ‘In Da Club’ flow, I really rate the way Game paints his pictures. “I studied the Chronic inside out/ Ate Doggstyle for breakfast, lunch was Reasonable Doubt/ i ain’t know how to count bars/I was writin' on napkins/High as fuck I wrote my first sixteen to Illmatic.” Hate him or love the underdog is indeed on top.

Did someone say Dog? Yes X is back, despite Jigga-like promises to retire. “Pump Ya Fist’ features lots of barking, snarls and angry guitars as per…haven’t been an ardent dog-fan since I kinda lost interest in his sound when ‘Grand Champion’ dropped but according to allhiphop.com X recorded the album in Miami and it will apparently see a slightly different direction form the Ruff Ryder. This tune seems to be renewing interest and it’s good to see DMX doing music rather than, er, other things he supposedly does. If you get chance to track down Vanessa Satten’s interview with X in XXL a while back, it’s really worth the read.

Finally Reggie Noble returns. There’s a video on allhiphop.com but not had chance to view it yet. “Gilla House Check” is its name and the video is ‘rugged’ apparently. Also check the D'explicit remixes of M.I.A and Leela James album, if it's out yet......
