Mentioned it a few days ago, but what the heck. Yep, just back from Miami, where amongst other things, witnessed a hurricane (thankfully only force 1) and watched MIA do her thing at Club 1/0 downtown. I tell you, them Yanks they love her - dudes were going crazy, jumping up and down, singing all the words and showing the Sri Lankan songwriter/ singjay a whole lotta love. Managed to mingle backstage with the main man himself, Dave Kelly and the most charming Cham. Kelly, who has produced for everyone from Buju Banton to Beenie Man and back again, just remixed Bucky Done Gun and was keen to see what all the fuss was about. "I like her, she's cool," he decided. As did Cham. Can I tak this opp to say what a nice man Mr Kelly is. He never, ever gives interviews, preferring it to be about the music, so to even get chance to chat with him was madly cool. Thanks to Jacquie Juceum for the hook up, as ever. One day, one day, I'll get to interview Dave, I hope. Watch out for Cham's album coming soon, too - should be dropping 'first quarter' as they say in the States. S'gonna be big.
